What an AI detector measures
An AI detector evaluates signals in the submitted text and returns an estimate under that system’s method. A result may change with the passage, language or detector. Treat it as a prompt for review. It does not supply a writing history and cannot establish authorship simply by displaying a percentage.
What a plagiarism checker measures
A checker compares text with the sources or collections available to it. Matches may include quotations, bibliographic entries, standard wording or unattributed copying. The important work is reading each match in context. A low overlap score cannot rule out every source-use problem, particularly when a source is outside the checker’s coverage.
Use AI detection and plagiarism checks separately
Check the question you actually need to resolve. Humanizily offers both tools, but the results should not be combined into a single originality judgment. Review the text, relevant source passages and available draft history together.
- For a style concern, inspect unclear or formulaic passages.
- For a source concern, compare matched wording and attribution.
- For a quotation, check quotation marks and the citation.
- Record unresolved questions for the author instead of treating a score as proof.
Explain the results without overstating them
Describe what was tested, which document version was checked and what you reviewed afterward. Do not call a text plagiarized merely because it resembles AI writing. Do not call it properly sourced merely because no match appeared. A useful review names the specific passage and the evidence behind the concern.
Worked example
Starting point
Illustrative result: a passage receives a low AI-likeness estimate and contains a long verbatim quotation.
Suggested wording or approach
Review the quotation’s source, quotation marks and citation independently of the AI estimate.
A low AI estimate does not tell you whether the quotation is attributed. The two checks answer different questions.
Common questions
Does a high AI score mean plagiarism?
No. AI-likeness and overlap with sources are different measurements.
Does a match always mean misconduct?
No. A correctly marked and cited quotation can produce a match.
Can I use both checks?
Yes, provided you interpret each result separately and review the underlying passages.
Put the workflow into practice
Start with a short passage and review the meaning and result before accepting it.
